Networking Design & Management
Module Description:
This module is designed to introduce the current technologies applicable to the development of enterprise networks. Design and management of backbone networks will be covered. Other network administration issues will also be addressed. Practical sessions will include hands-on labs, where students will use network monitoring and simulation tools. They should also be able to implement and configure clients and servers in a networking environment.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module, students will acquire sufficient knowledge & experience via lectures and practicals to:
- Understand the fundamental concepts and technologies involved in backbone networks.
- Understand the need for proper network planning and design.
- Understand the metrics and concepts in network performance.
- Understand how to need for fault and configuration management.
- Understand the need for both physical and logical security and how these are implemented.
