Data Communications

Module Description:

This module will provide an overview of data communication and the problems that affects communication in relation to computer networks. Various communications standards, protocols, architectures, and transmission techniques currently available will also be investigated. The need for flow control, multiplexing, synchronisation, error detection and correction of data in digital communication will also be covered.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this module, students will acquire sufficient knowledge via lectures to:

  • Apply knowledge of mathematics to understand basic concepts in communication engineering.
  • Understand basic communication systems, processes, and components.
  • Identify and solve basic communication engineering problems.
  • Demonstrate self-learning skills and aptitudes.
